Hechi's Tian'e county took a series of measures to improve the quality of life for rural residents last year, Hechi Daily reported on April 28.

The county set aside funds to improve public facilities in 105 villages, upgrading 32,240 toilets. Currently, the coverage rate of sanitary toilets in rural areas is 93.33 percent. In addition, the completion rate of work to upgrade public lighting, reinforce roads, and improve local water infrastructure reached 100 percent.

In recent years, the county has profited from growing fruit, walnuts, the ingredients for Chinese medicines, and edible fungi, as well as breeding animals, creating 102 agricultural demonstration areas.

The average income of 94 villages in the county has reached 50,000 yuan ($7,709), with three villages reporting an average of 500,000 yuan.

Cultural facilities in the county have also improved. Seven village-level public service centers have been built, and 1,099 films have been screened for rural residents, increasing the amount of leisure activities available in the countryside.

Hechi is located in the northwestern part of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and the southern foothills of the Yungui Plateau.
