The Old Town of Bing'an lies in Bing'an township in the middle part of Chishui city. The inconvenience of transport helps the old town maintain its original features dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Cars cannot enter the old town, and transportation relies on human labor.

Bing'an is around the intersection of Sichuan and Guizhou and has significant geographic significance. In the past, transportation relied heavily on ships. The salt in Guizhou was imported from Zigong, Sichuan province. The Chishui River served as the major transportation route. The Old Town of Bing'an was one of the major ports along the river.

Life in Bing'an

The most famous building in Bing'an is Diaojiao Building built on a rock overlooking the river. The rope bridge over the Chishui River is the best place to take a photo of the entire old town.

Bing'an is an excellent place for hiking and rafting.

Tips

1. Take a bus to Luzhou and then transfer to Chishui. It takes half an hour to Bing'an from the urban area of Chishui city, and the ticket is 5 yuan ($0.80). The dried bean curd and fried meat with bamboo shoots in the Old Town of Bing'an are very delicious.

2. There are several inns in the old town and the price is comparatively cheap. The conditions are not that comfortable, but living in the old town can help visitors experience the local customs.

3. Chishui is famous for its role during the Long March. It is also home to ancient cultural heritages and beautiful natural scenery, including Shizhangdong Falls and Zhuhai National Forest Park.
