"In the next eight years, Guizhou has the confidence to help 9 million people out of poverty," said Zhao Kezhi, the Guizhou provincial Party secretary, at the press conference of the Guizhou delegation during the first session of the 12th National People's Congress in Beijing on Monday.

According to the national poverty line salary of 2,300 yuan ($369.69) per month, Guizhou has an impoverished population of 11.49 million.

Among them, two million people will work their way out of poverty as ecological immigrants. Another 1.7 million people unable to work need the government's long-time support, and nearly 7.8 million people are in need of poverty alleviation.

Zhao emphasized,"Poverty alleviation will become our priority project to enhance our people’s livelihood in Guizhou."
