Small county builds biggest walnut industry

"Zhao Kezhi, secretary of the Guizhou Provincial CPC Committee, attaches great importance to Hezhang’s walnut industry by allocating 60 million yuan ($9.80 million) every year for its development, which brings new opportunities for Hezhang county," said Sun Xun, county Party secretary and head of Hezhang county.

Hezhang county now has a walnut planting area of 54,000 hectares, an annual yield of nuts amounting to 15,000 tons, and a production value of 600 million yuan. The achievements contribute to an increase of over 12 percent to the whole county’s forest coverage, according to Sun.

More than 60 investment projects used preferential taxes and land policies to attract capital during the activity.
