A conference on traffic jam issues was held in Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou province, on November 29. Fifteen citizens gave advice on solving traffic jams in Guiyang city.
Guiyang started a campaign on Nov 13 known as "Talk About Traffic, Solve Traffic Jams." Citizens can make suggestions through platforms such as newspapers, television, radio and the Internet. So far, the city has collected more than 2,000 opinions.
"The city's transportation safety education shall start with children," said Zhaojia, a teacher at Guiyang Shiyan Primary School.
"At the same time, efforts will focus on eliminating hidden traffic dangers around the campus’s surrounding areas," said Zhao.
"It is necessary for Guiyang to control the growth of private cars and settle public transportation policy," said Chen Dongzhong, an 83-year-old citizen.
Gao Yijie, a reporter from Guiyang TV, said,"Guiyang should have a long-term urban plan and prevent redundant construction."
"The Guiyang municipal government will organize professionals to discuss possible measures raised by citizens. The most practical proposal will be ultimately accepted," said Gao Weidong, deputy mayor of Guiyang.
Countermeasures for traffic jams will be published at the end of the year after careful analysis and investigation.
