Jingdong Group will cooperate with Guizhou province on a food security clouding project. Both sides signed an agreement on August 27 in Beijing, building a food safety barrier for consumers.
Food security is one part of the "seven clouding projects" put forward by the Guizhou provincial government in February this year to speed up the development of the big data industry.
Paying attention to product quality, Jingdong Group cooperates with Guizhou on its food security platform to share statistics concerning food quality and authentication information and to develop food security apps for consumers.
With the support of the provincial science and technology department, the physical and chemical testing center of Guizhou Academy of Sciences has built a food security cloud platform.
Meanwhile, the testing center also established the Food Safety & Nutrition (Guizhou) Information Technology Company, the nation's first food security cloud service provider.
The company now has data for 23,000 food products. It has 38 domestic well-known experts in the field and over 100 demonstration enterprises including Mengniu Diary and Wahaha Group. It also creates 600,000 pieces of food security data involving product standards and testing information.
With 100 million premium customers and 30,000 suppliers, as a domestic leading comprehensive network marketing company, Jingdong Shangke Information Technology Co aims to develop cloud technology and related service platforms.
Some insiders have estimated that China's e-commerce in food will reach 140 billion yuan ($22.8 billion) by 2018.
