US Commercial Service, a trade promotion organization, held a forum to promote cooperation between US and China on building of a smart and green city in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, on May 8.

Guiyang was selected as the pilot smart city by Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development in 2013, making it attractive to US digital technology companies.

A smart city refers to one that uses digital technologies to enhance performance and promote public well-being while reducing costs and resource consumption. China has drafted national plans to promote the application of the idea as it pushes its urbanization drive.

"We hope the forum can help US companies show their new technology and successful smart city experiences to local governments and potential business partners in Guiyang," said Raymond Greene, US Consul General in Chengdu.

Some leading US companies including Dell, Honeywell, 3M, Nucloud Global, Autodesk Software and McWong Environmental Technology shared their technology and experiences in big data, cloud computing, smart traffic, green architecture, green data base, and clean energy during the forum.

"We will help US companies seek more cooperation with Guiyang," said Eric Hsu, commercial officer of US Commercial Service in China. Hsu encourages more US enterprises to participate in the forthcoming big date expo to be held in Guiyang this month.

"We need more advanced technologies from US enterprises to help build our smart city," said Xu Hao, vice-mayor of Guiyang.
