Guizhou province, which is one of China's most impoverished areas, reports some noteworthy achievement in poverty relief, recently, with the number of people living in poverty having been reduced to 6.23 million from 11.49 million in 2011.
This has brought down the percentage of impoverished people in Guizhou in China's total number of impoverished from 15.6 back in 2011, to 8.9 percent now, after five years of hard work.
During China's 12th Five-year plan (2011-2015), the Guizhou government did an evaluation of the work of local officials based on improvements in poverty relief rather than GDP and the province found its own approach to poverty reduction, including agricultural industries and top-quality vegetable and fruits, tea and medicines, skills training and house remodeling.
