The city of Guiyang, southwest China's Guizhou province has introduced a smart travel program with online ticketing, video monitoring, free WiFi hotspots, intelligent parking, and tourism apps to bring greater convenience to tourists, with the old town of Qingyan being one of the first scenic spots to apply the system in the city.

In commenting on the new system, one tourist from Chongqing who visited Qingyan during the Tomb-sweeping Day holiday, said, "Getting an entrance ticket online is so convenient, so I didn't have to wait in line at the gate."

A Guiyang Tourism Development official explains further, "By using the Internet, the smart travel system gives visitors a package of services before and after their visit, to make it a more convenient experience and it provides data for the government administration and for enterprise for marketing."

The tourism development office has established relations with some leading Internet tourism sites across China, including Qunar, Lvmama, Ctrip and Baidu Travel and it says it is planning to add more functions to the smart travel system, such as navigation, weather forecasts and traffic monitoring.
