A Qianxinan cuisine cooking competition was held in Xingyi, Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture on Sept 26.
A dazzling spread of more than 350 different specialties from across the Qianxinan prefecture was put on for visitors on the day.
The local government of Qianxinan prefecture sponsored the competition. The prefecture’s deputy director, Fan Hua, attended the competition opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Organizers selected 100 of the best specialty dishes from the region on display.
The Qianxinan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture is located in southwestern Guizhou province and has a population of 2.8 million with more than 30 minorities.
Siwawa, the dish above, means ‘baby in swaddling clothes' in English. The dish was created in the 1980s in Guizhou and is made from a thin rice cake wrapped with various vegetables in the shape of a newborn infant, hence the name. [Photo/chinadaily.com.cn] |
