Liping county in Qiandongnan Miao and Dong autonomous prefecture is located in northwest Guizhou province and serves as a passage to Hunan and Hubei provinces in the east and into Guangdong and Guangxi provinces in the South.
Liping is the biggest and most populous county in the prefecture. It is one of the major birthplaces of Dong people and is home to 71 percent of the total Dong population.
The county is famous for its history and culture. The buildings, originally built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), are well preserved. It is also known as home of the Grand Song and the "home of the drum-tower".
Liping is also well-known for growing tea. The tea-growing area reached 508,000 mu (33,867 hectares) by the end of 2012. It also attaches great importance to forest preservation.
