By the end of November, the first municipal WeChat applet for Guiyang's affairs -- Shuzhi Guiyang -- on the government and people's livelihoods, was a major success according to local media reports.
It registered about 89,000 real name users, about 37,000 monthly active users and 5.176 million cumulative visits.
From the end of May the city of Guiyang, capital of southwestern Guizhou province, worked on improving the service functions of the WeChat applet.
Officials said that as of the end of November, Shuzhi Guiyang had made it possible for users to access and handle a wide range of services. They cover the areas of public security, the housing provident fund, human resources and social security, medical insurance and information about water, electricity and gas.
At present, six high-frequency used government services -- including medical insurance registration in different places, withdrawals from the housing provident fund after retirement and applications for disabled auxiliary equipment -- can be handled online with the applet.
Officials said that next Guiyang will extend connections for the Shuzhi Guiyang WeChat applet to the provincial government service mobile terminal.
Plans are for it to access more provincial high-frequency government services and continue to increase the number of services that can be handled by residents.
It is estimated that 100 high-frequency government affairs services will be processed online by the end of the year.
