Anshun is one of the best destinations with karst landscapes in the world. As a tourism hub in western Guizhou province, it also lies on one of the six most popular travel routes in China.
Anshun has many national sight-seeing areas within its 100-kilometer radius, such as, the world renowned Huangguoshu Waterfall, 45 km west of the city; the fairyland Tianxingqiao Scenic Area, to the left of the waterfall, integrating mountains, caves, forests and water; the fascinating karst cave Anshun Longgong (Dragon Palace), 27 km south of the city; a large underground park Zhijin Cave, 100 km north of the city; and Hongfeng Lake, 70 km east of the city.
It also boasts many cultural relic sites. The Confucius Temple is a complex with 17 ancient buildings, whose stone columns with delicate openwork dragons are rarely seen nationwide. In addition, there exist some sites featuring unique local ethnic customs. Anshun local opera and Nuo opera, in particular, are famous both in China and abroad.
Anshun's scenic spots cover an area of 950.9 square kilometers, accounting for around 10 percent of the city's total area. The concentration of various rich tourism resources has made them easy to be developed and protected.
Located in the center of the karst area in the south of China, Anshun's karst landform is typical, well developed and concentratedly distributed. It features rivers, canyons, mountains, forests, lakes, springs, waterfalls and karst caves, creating gorgeous and varied three-dimensional pictures.
