The Anshun Yunshan - Benzhai Ancient Architectural Complex is located 25 km from Anshun. The region is surrounded by high mountains and is home to eight villages. Yunshan and Benzhai villages are two that preserve elements from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.
Yunshan village, located in the narrow valley, has a total area of 2 square kilometers. Local buildings were constructed in the typical courtyard style of the Ming and Qing dynasties. In June 2006, Yunshan village was listed into the Guinness Book of World Records by Shanghai Great World Guinness headquarters as "the largest and best preserved village of the Ming Dynasty".
Benzhai village, about 1,500 meters from Yunshan village, covers an area of 46,000 square meters. It is one of the best preserved villages to date. People in the village mostly hold a surname of Jin or Li. In this village, residential courtyards are built in a four-section and three-section compound style with sturdy construction and comfortable living conditions.
After years of renovation, the buildings of Yunshan and Benzhai have become center of cultural tourism in Anshun.
