Guiyang receives praise for its medical waste disposal

Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has enhanced the supervision and examination of its medical waste to further prevent and control the novel coronavirus epidemic, receiving praise and recognition from the public.

By March 9, the Guiyang bureau of ecology and environment checked the disposal of medical waste and sewage at various medical institutions over 1,000 times, especially at designated hospitals like the Jiangjunshan section of the Guiyang public health center.

Currently, medical waste in Guiyang are collected and disposed every day. Waste involving the novel coronavirus is transported by special teams, and the sewage will be sterilized before being discharged.

The bureau also enhanced the supervision on social organizations, especially designated hotels for quarantine, to prevent the spread of the virus.

The waste treatment centers in charge of medical waste are checked by the bureau every day. So far, Guiyang has collected and disposed 825.45 metric tons of medical waste, including 56.83 tons of medical waste involving the virus.

To ensure drinking water safety, the bureau has checked sewage treatment plants 146 times to urge the disinfection and sterilization of sewage. In addition, the bureau has checked centralized drinking water resources over 30 times.
