Dahua Hotel is a charming, oriental styled hotel sitting on the south bank of Hangzhou’s West Lake. Very few people are aware that this hotel was the former residence of Dong Weisheng, a successful Hangzhou business man in the 1930s, thus this was how the residence got its name, Dong Villa.
The villa was converted into a hotel in 1935 and has accommodated a lot of celebrities in the past. Mei Lanfang, Beijing Opera master, stayed in this hotel when he was performing in Hangzhou and he spoke highly of West Lake’s natural beauty and the magnificent hotel.
