HANGZHOU - Authorities in east Zhejiang province on Wednesday issued warnings for super typhoon Muifa as it is forecast to possibly land in the province in the coming three days.
Muifa, the ninth typhoon to hit China this year, was located about 1,280 km southeast of Zhejiang's Taizhou city at 8 am Wednesday, according to the latest report from the Zhejiang Provincial Meteorological Station.
Packing winds of up to 198 km per hour near its center, Muifa was heading northwest at a speed of 10 km to 15 km per hour, the report said.
It is very likely to land in the eastern part of Zhejiang Saturday night and cause significant damage, it said.
Meteorological authorities have issued strong warnings to fishing boats in the area.
In addition, the Zhejiang Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has ordered local authorities in those seaside areas that might be affected by the super typhoon to prepare for timely evacuation of residents.
