HANGZHOU, China - The Zhejiang province is ready to host the 8th National Para Games of China, said organizing committee vice president and secretary general Shi Limin on Monday.
According to China Disabled Person's Federation (CDPF) sports department deputy director Zhao Sujing, the results of athletics, swimming and powerlifting will be counted into London Paralympic qualification rankings and scores.
The Games features 18 sports mainly in Hangzhou and three neighbouring cities. The competitions of archery, basketball for the deaf, cycling, rowing, wheelchair fencing and football 7-a-side ended in June and July this year.
To enhance participation and popularity of the disabled sports, organizers added two events, chess and darts, in this edition. Meanwhile, rowing was firstly included as a formal competition event to help preparing for the London Paralympics next year.
Apart from the 19 Games venues and 38 hotels, airport, railway stations and public facilities in the hosting cities have already finished their renovation. Organizers claimed that most of non-obstacle facilities will be reserved after the Games.
The eight-day Games attracted 2,584 athletes from 35 delegations including Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions, refreshing last edition's attendance which claimed to be the biggest ever in the country.
