HANGZHOU - "War in Libya," the work of Reuters' photojournalist Goran Tomasevic, won China's international press photo contest, the competition's organizing committee said Sunday.

At the 8th China International Press Photo Contest, themed "Peace and Development," 11 foreign and five Chinese photographers won the top prizes in eight categories, such as life, war, nature and culture, Yu Ning, chairman of the contest's organizing committee, said at the press conference held in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province.

More than 2,300 photojournalists from over 50 countries and regions entered over 30,000 pieces in the competition, said Yu. Foreign photographers contributed to 60 percent of the total entries.

The work showed real images of people's economic, political and cultural lives, the struggle between human beings and wars and disasters, and people's pursuit of peace and development, said Yu.

The event was organized by the Photojournalist Society of China, the Zhejiang Daily Group, the Hangzhou West Lake Expo organizing committee and the Hangzhou city government.
