Hebei province's agriculture department has supplied the latest information on land transfers, involving about 834,000 hectares of farmland for agricultural development, with an expected annual increase of 2 percent in transfer rate of land in future. This land accounts for 15.1 percent of the total area of contracted farmland in Hebei. After the transfers are complete, there will be more large-scale agricultural management, more than 60 percent in this industry of Hebei.
The province now has 29,700 farmers cooperatives, about 9,000 of them in large groups producing grain, vegetables, cotton, and traditional Chinese medicines. In addition, about 10,000 groups provide support services such as plant protection and agricultural machinery. The government plans to do more for sustainable development in agriculture, especially in land transfers. For the smoother transfer of land in the future, the province is trying out a pilot program on contracted land use to guarantee the rights of farmers. In addition, it will do more research on principles and ways of agricultural development with the focus on family farms and large cooperative groups. |
