2010 Shanghai Expo Hebei Pavilion Tangshan Week launched Thursday

Tangshan Week was officially launched at Hebei Pavilion at 2010 Shanghai Expo on August 19.

Visitors to Hebei Pavilion at Shanghai World Expo this week will have the chance to learn about and enjoy aspects of Tangshan culture such as Leting drums, clay figurines and shadow play.

Hebei Pavilion’s Tangshan Week was launched Thursday and will continue through August 23.

Tangshan, known as the porcelain capital of North China, boasts the first sanitary ceramics in the country. Tangshan was selected from hundreds of outstanding porcelain manufacturing centers to provide porcelain tableware for the Shanghai Expo state banquet.

During the Tangshan Week, officials will present three famous porcelain products: Huida, Longda and Red Rose. Pavilion visitors will also receive exquisite porcelain gifts.

Tangshan acts as gateway city for economic cooperation with countries in northeast Asia. Datian economic and trade delegates from Korea will be invited to the Hebei Pavilion August 22 to talk with Tangshan enterprises.

Besides the famous porcelain works and the international discussions with Korean officials, Tangshan entertainers will also put on a number of performances throughout the week. Visitors will not only be treated to enjoy traditional art performances such as Leting drum and Tangshan shadow play, but also pearl chestnut, one of Tangshan’s local specialties.

Tangshan Tourism Promotion Day, which is to fall on August 23, will give visitors a detailed introduction to the tourism resources in Tangshan through LED and LCD screens.
