Dedicated female official in Central China makes it to TV

China's State TV channel, CCTV, has done a story on Xiang Xiaoli, head of the town of Dashiqiao near the city of Nanyang, Henan province, on July 15, and how she was responsible for relocating 16 000 residents, in 2010, to make room for China's large South-to-North Water Diversion Project.

Xiang's job was to make sure that construction work on project went smoothly so that it could move water from Yangtze River to parched northern China, including the capital Beijing.

Xiang put in a great effort in trying to win the understanding and support of villagers who were forced to leave their hometown and to help them get settled in new housing. She also had to stand up to a number of enterprises that were polluting the water and close them down to ensure clean water in Beijing.

Because of her effort in relocating almost half of the villagers, Xiang got many titles, such as "Advanced Individual","Excellent Communist Party member in Henan province", and one of "Ten Role Models in Nanyang in 2011".
