Traditional opera flourishes in Nanyang

(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2017-01-19

A variety of operas hit the stage in Nanyang Theatre on Jan 13, attracting thousands of local residents to soak up a bit of culture.

Quju, Yueju, Yuediao and Wanbang, four major local operas, were performed by famous artists, including Hu Xihua, Liu Yanli, Niu Changxin, and Sun Binxin.

Tickets were sold for the token price of 5 yuan ($0.72), so as to give more punters the opportunity to enjoy operatic classics.

The shows come off the back of an opera competition run by the government in Nanyang in 2016, aimed at giving better exposure to the dramatic art form.
