Chinese folk art stamps debut in Pingdingshan

A set of special stamps featuring the Majie Folk Art Fair debuted in Baofeng county, Pingdingshan, Henan province on July 8, 2011.

The set consists of four stamps worth 1.2 yuan each. They feature performances seen at the Majie Folk Art Fair, including comic dialogue, story-telling with drum accompaniment, storytelling and ballad singing in Suzhou dialect and clap ballad..

The Majie Folk Art Fair has a history spanning over 700 years. The event is simply a great wonder in the history and culture of Baofeng county. The country. was named the Town of Chinese folk art in October 1995. The Majie Folk Art Fair was listed as one of the ten most famous Chinese folk customs in February 1996. The Fair has also been included on the list of national intangible cultural heritages in May 2006.

China Post Group approved Pingdingshan’s proposal to hold the launch ceremony in Baofeng county on July 8.
