Ruzhou has been covered with lanterns recently in order to take on a festive appearance. Big red lanterns were hung up alongside Ruzhou's main roads: Danyang Road and Guangcheng Road. Red Chinese knots were placed on Wangsong Road, welcoming people to Ruzhou.

Festive lanterns came in various styles, shapes and sizes. Since 2013 is the Year of the Snake, there were golden snake lanterns and lanterns in the shape of Baisuzhen (a Chinese fairy tale character). Many people were attracted by these beautiful lanterns and came to enjoy the visual feast.

Ruzhou made some changes during Lantern Festival in order to attract investment and grow businesses. Ruzhou actively took measures to promote government-leadership and public participation to upgrade the city’s image and develop culture.

Rich and colorful recreational activities were held in Ruzhou during Lantern Festival as well. There were opera fan competitions, a Yangko (popular rural folk dance) competition and painting and calligraphy shows. People could feel the welcoming spring atmosphere during the festival.
