The establishment and reconstruction project of Ruzhou automatic monitoring base stations for State-controlled pollution sources will finish within a few days, according to the Ruzhou environmental protection bureau on Dec 4.

The city currently has five State-controlled pollution source automatic monitoring base stations. Four of them have been approved by the Henan Department of Environmental Protection, and the last one is preparing for checks and approval.

An investigation on Ruzhou's State-controlled pollution sources was carried out by the Henan Environment Monitoring Center in July. It was reported that existing automatic-monitoring devices were insufficient. They had weak foundations and some had not yet been developed.

Moreover, equipment that had already been set up could not run normally due to serious degradation. As a result, some pollution sources were unable to be monitored. Data validity was unsatisfactory and information could not be uploaded in time. In order to solve these problems and deficiencies, the Henan Environmental Protection Dept issued a special supervision notice, requiring repairs and reform within a limited time.

In accordance with the notice, Ruzhou completed the construction and renovation project after three months of work.

The project not only helps deal with pollution in the city and enhances monitoring and management of pollutant emissions, but it also lays a solid foundation for the next assessment.
