Recently, Dr Lai Kuifang, a well-known Singaporean artist, made an official visit to the city of Ruzhou to study Ru porcelain. His schedules in Ruzhou included stops in the Ru Porcelain Museum and the Zhanggongxiang Ru kiln site.
Officials from the municipality’s government office, overseas departments together with Zhu Wenli, a master of Ru porcelain, accompanied the artist.
The aim of Dr Lai’s visit in Ruzhou was to research the development path of Ru porcelain. The study results will be used in his lectures at universities in Singapore.
During his tour of Ru porcelain, Dr Lai asked and recorded the origins and history of each piece of ancient Ru porcelain in detail, hoping that the history of Ru porcelain can be restored and understood through pieces of Ru porcelain debris.
Lai Kuifang graduated from the Western Painting Department of Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in 1958. In 1963, Dr Lai won a government scholarship to further his art studies at the world renowned Ecole National Suprieure Des Beaux-arts in Paris. In 1968, the Republic of France conferred him the knight of the French Order of Arts and Letters. He was also an Officier of Arts since 1975, the highest honor bestowed by the French government in the field of arts.
