Huangma Uprising Memorial Park

Huangma Uprising and Hubei-Henan-Anhui Soviet Area Memorial Park is located at No 1 Lingyuan Avenue, Chengguan town, Hong’an county, Hubei province.

In 1956, Hubei Provincial Government approved the construction of the Huangma Uprising and Hubei-Henan-Anhui Soviet Area Revolutionary Martyr Cemetery at Kezi mountain, northeast of Hong’an county seat, to commemorate the martyrs of the Huangma Uprising and Hubei-Henan-Anhui Soviet Area revolutionary base area.

In June 2010, the area was renamed as Huangma Uprising and Hubei-Henan-Anhui Soviet Area Memorial Park. It occupies a land of 341 mu. The planned area amounts to 500 mu.

The memorial park comprises of the Huangma Uprising and Hubei-Henan-Anhui Soviet Area Revolutionary Martyr Monument, monument square, martyr square, general cemetery, Red Army Cemetery, History Memorial, Martyr Memorial, Dong Biwu Memorial, Li Xiannian Memorial and Hong’an General Memorial.

Huangma Uprising and Hubei-Henan-Anhui Soviet Area Memorial Park is a national AAAA-class tourism scenic spot. It is a key example of martyr memorial architecture under national protection, authorized by Ministry of Civil Affairs. It is named by Ministry of Publicity as one of the first group of Chinese 100 Patriotic Education Bases, one of the 30 choice lines for red tourism, one of the 100 classic scenic spots, a state-level national defense education base, and one of the 50 national traditional education bases to combat corruption and build a clean government. It is authorized by the Ministry of Publicity as a “national first-class revolutionary tradition education base.” It is set by National Tourism Administration as one of the first group of national tourism standardization experimental unit. It has been declared by Hubei Provincial Government as the “province’s most important revolutionary tradition education base” and "provincial-level garden-like unit.”

In 2009, the memorial park passed the ISO9001: 2008 quality management system authentication for management and service.

The memorial park has set up cooperation relations with over 500 institutions across the country. It receives 800,000 visitors each year on average. Over 96 percent of visitors say they are satisfied with the service there. The park has also welcomed a large number of Party and state leaders, including Dong Biwu, Li Xiannian, Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Li Ruihuan, Qiao Shi, Wu Bangguo, Liu Huaqing, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Xi Jinping, Zen Qinghong, Liu Yunshan, and Yu Zhengsheng.

The park is an important position for the country’s mass Party members and cadres to gain in-depth knowledge of the Party history, and intensify Party spirit and Party style education. It is an important site for the public to receive Party education and enhance patriotism. It is an important classroom for young people to receive ideological, moral and patriotic education.
