Migration work for the South-to-North Water Diversion Project of Hubei province will be completed in 2012. The follow-up work for the Three Gorges Reservoir has been initiated and Hubei will carry on with the rapid late-stage support and development for the reservoir.

According to statistics, 345,000 residents have to migrate for the Central Line Project of South-to-North Water Diversion. Of these, 181,000 are Hubei residents coming from the five counties and urban areas of Shiyan. Up until the end of 2010, 77,000 migrants have had to move to the other nine prefecture-level cities (21 counties and urban areas) of Hubei province. By the end of 2011, 80,200 rural residents who used to live in the reservoir areas have moved to new locations. Approximately 8,605 migrants were from the original towns and 2,886 from the enterprise. The migration work for the 92,000 residents has mainly been completed.

In order to reach the target of "a reservoir with clean water for northern areas" in 2014, the governments at all levels in Hubei province and the Migration Departments of Danjiangkou Reservoir Areas will continue to focus on migration work. They will also integrate various resources to carry forward the round-off work that includes new town construction, professional projects and more.

It is reported that Hubei is a major province for reservoir migrants. Three million migrants, including migrants for the Three Gorges Reservoir and the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, account for almost 10 percent of the rural population in Hubei. Development of the migrants is of great importance for the whole province. The economic and social development in reservoir and resettlement areas remains continuously stable and migrants are well settled at present.
