The East Lake High-Tech Zone

Besides the Zhongguancun High-Tech Zone of Beijing, the East Lake High-Tech Zone of Wuhan is the only National Innovation Demonstration Zone approved by the State Council. The planned area of the East Lake High-Tech Zone is 518 square km with its major industries of opto-electronic information technology, bio-technology, new energy and energy conservation, modern equipment manufacturing and modern service industry.

Two Areas and One Belt

The program of the Greater Wuhan Metropolitan Area (the Pilot Zone for the Resource Conserving and Environmentally Friendly Reforms), Western Hubei Ecological and Cultural Tourist Area and the Yangtze River Economic Belt was launched in 2007, 2008 and 2009 separately. These programs will serve as important carriers for the overall developing strategy and scientific development of Hubei province.

Goals in the 12th Five Year Plan

Insisting on the leap-forward development by improving the overall competence and sustainable developing capacity, Hubei will try to achieve coordination between scientific development and leap-forward development with a focus on the livelihood of the people.

◆ Up to 10% annual GDP growth and 6,000 USD for per capita GDP

◆ By the year of 2015, the forest coverage in the Western Hubei Ecological and Cultural Tourist Area reaches 46%

◆Foster the development of electronic information, automobile, petroleum chemistry, equipment manufacturing and food processing and achieve their sales revenue exceeding 500 billion RMB Yuan

◆ The sales revenue of new-emerged industries exceeds 1 trillion RMB Yuan and the proportion of its added value in the GDP is lifted to 15%

◆ The added value of modern service industry such as tourism, culture, commerce and business exceeds 100 billion RMB Yuan separately

◆ The added value of modern logistics exceeds 200 trillion RMB Yuan and build Wuhan as an important logistic center of China

◆ Build Wuhan as the regional commercial center

◆ The urbanization of Hubei reaches 52%

◆ The total mileage of railway service reaches 5,852 km

◆ The annual passenger volume of Wuhan Tianhe Airport reaches 38 million

◆ The annual cargo volume of Wuhan New Port exceeds 430 million tons by 2030

◆ The in-service FDI reaches 5.3 billion USD

◆ The total revenue of international trade reaches 45 billion USD
