Changsha’s tourism during Spring Festival

According to statistics released by Changsha Municipal Tourist Administration on Feb 24, Changsha received a total of 2.62 million tourists and generated 2.38 billion yuan ($380.6 million) of gross tourism revenue during the Spring Festival week, accounting for an increase of 18.3 percent and 20.2 percent respectively compared to festival period in 2014.

On New Year’s Eve, the fireworks show at Orange Island attracted more than 200,000 people as they crowded along the Xiang River. During the Spring Festival, the scenic spots in Changsha ushered in great number of tourists. The top five popular tourist attractions in Changsha are the Yuelu Mountain and Orange Island Scenic Spot, Liu Shaoqi Memorial, Window of the World and Underwater World, Yanghu Lake Wetland Park, and Hunan Provincial Forest Botanical Garden.

Among the 2.62 million tourists spending the Festival in Changsha, 1.73 million were part of a one-day tour and spent an average of 665 yuan per capita per day. The other 892,000 tourists stayed in Changsha overnight, with an average cost of 998 yuan per capita a day, a spending increase of 55 yuan and 23 yuan respectively compared to 2014.

Changsha seeks to revive porcelain production

In recent years, the local government has sought to revive the region's long tradition in porcelain making and boost local industry with the cultural influence of ancient Tongguan kilns, which have a history of 1,200 years.
