Chunhua town on the outskirts of Changsha is celebrating its second lotus festival, which got underway on July 30 and runs till late August.

During the month-long event, visitors will not only be able to admire the beautiful natural scenery but also take part in various activities, including a photography contest, picking grapes and fishing.

The highlight of the festival highlights is the lotus pond in Huayuan new village, which covers an area of about 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares). It is a perfect place to admire lotus flowers in summer.

"Since early July, there have been thousands of visitors flocking to Huayuan new village each day to appreciate the beautiful flowers," said a staff member of Hunan Qunyi Eco-agriculture Co, based in Chunhua town. "It helps increase sales of lotus seedpods as well as boost local tourism."
