A direct flight between Taizhong in Taiwan and Hohhot, capital of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, will be opened by Far Eastern Air Transport, a Taiwan-based airline company.

“Taiwan tourists are very interested in the beautiful scenery of Inner Mongolia,” said Lee Cheng-chung, the airline’s president, on April 28 during a press conference held for the new air route.

Lee said the non-stop flight between the two cities will be a great help for cross-Straits exchange, travel and commercial trade.

The Hohhot-Taizhong flight will be scheduled every Tuesday and Wednesday from May 28. The flight will take around 3.5 hours.

Far Eastern Air Transport is the first airline to supply cross-Straits charter flights. Its charter flight from Taiwan to Shanghai on Jan 27, 2003, was recognized as a milestone for cross-Straits exchange.
