A group of painters and calligraphers from the Painting and Calligraphy Institute in Ulanqab League, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, came to Datong to participate in a two-day painting and calligraphy exchange with artists of the Yungang Painting and Calligraphy Institute.
Over 20 painters and calligraphers attended the gathering at Huayan Temple, a Buddhism tourist site in the city. The artists created Wei Dynasty stele style calligraphy, landscape paintings, and flower and bird paintings. Cao Biao, an artist from Ulanqab League, said that such visits would help to improve his painting and calligraphy skills as Datong is the birthplace of Wei Dynasty stele style calligraphy. Apart from this event, the artists from the two places also held a series of cultural events in Haotian Temple and other scenic spots in Datong.
