Wuhai, Inner Mongolia autonomous region was listed in the third group of "National Green Transportation Cities", as the first such city in the region.

The idea of low-carbon and environmental-friendly transportation is running through the city, as it strives to speed up the construction of transportation infrastructure.

The city is working towards a green and low-carbon future. Beginning in 2010, the city has equipped 235 clean-energy vehicles with a total investment of over 100 million yuan ($16.13 million). Most of the city's taxies and many privately-owned vehicles run on natural gas instead of gasoline.

As a national green transportation city, Wuhai will receive national subsidies to support its energy saving and emission reduction projects until 2017.
