The city of Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia autonomous region had a flight trial run at its new Jining Airport, on Jan 19, receiving an Air China 737 on its runway, and pronouncing the airport's navigation, flight, and air-ground communication systems, and runway, taxiing, clearance, and operations all up to standards.
Construction work on the airport began in January 2010, and an evaluation was done by the end of December 2015. The airport is designed to handle 1-million passengers in a year and a total cargo throughput of 90 million tons, and can handle all domestic aircraft, including A320 and B737.
