When the city of Baotou, Inner Mongolia put on a kite competition on its city square on April 10, it drew in more than 140 students from primary and middle schools across the city with around 300 kites of various shapes and sizes, which were judged by their design, handling methods, and speed.
Zhang Wei, deputy director of the city's youth palace, explained by saying, "We hope the competition lets our students enjoy and benefit from the whole process of designing, making, flying, and controlling the kites together with their parents."
The organizer of this 9th kite-flying event was the municipal education bureau with help from the city's youth palace.
