From Aug 5 to 7, the Desert Electronic Music Carnival, themed “boundless grasslands”, was plugged in at the Engebei ecological zone, Dalad banner of Ordos.

The carnival guests, including Mongolian ethnic artists, pop singers, rock bands and fashion models, attracted thousands of music fans.

Around 8 pm on Aug 5, the ethnic and pop music show was ignited by the host Jia Xuming and the crosstalk comedian Zhang Kang. The well-known pop rocker, Zang Tianshuo, was chief director of this musical extravaganza.

The Newman band livened up the atmosphere to the delight of fans who waved their arms with the waves of electronic music. When the Mongolian ethnic singer, Sechen Gerel, appeared with the widely-noted “Toasting Song”, the audience sang and rocked along. Later, an original song composed by the New Concept band from Dalad banner impressed the crowd.

The carnival offered not only singers and bands, but also over twelve sports activities like desert badminton, desert yoga, and motor racing.

Aside from simple enjoyment of ethnic and pop music in the desert, the carnival had two bigger purposes: one was helping the local public through donations made by the performing musicians to 218 poor households in Engebei town, and the other was to awaken the public to the significance of ecology protection, especially of oases in the local desert.
