On Nov 13, almost 20,000 impoverished college students received 705 million yuan ($103 million) in grants from the Inner Mongolia government, according to the Education Bureau of Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
These students are college freshmen this year, and most of them come from households receiving subsistence government allowances in urban areas, rural families without stable incomes, households suffering from severe accidents or diseases, orphans, or any number of other factors that made them into a low-income family.
From 2014 to 2016, Inner Mongolia government was able to provide 2.1 billion yuan via the regional finance bureau, the education bureau, charity organizations and individuals, to around 60,200 college students in need.
The regional government dispatched officers to interview these students’ families and get to know their difficulties in real life, which impacted how much was allotted to each student.
