Recently, the Hohhot Children’s Welfare Home renovated the dining hall, the classrooms, and activities field to create a more comfortable living environment for children to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
Instructors and volunteers accompanied these children to write spring couplets, draw pictures, ignite fireworks, watch the Spring Festival Gala, and make dumplings during the Chinese New Year holiday, according to Gao Wenyuan, deputy head of the welfare home.
"It’s hard to remember how many kids my husband and I have taken care of since starting work in the welfare home in 2009. We have treated these kids as our own through the years," said Jing Fengying, a staff member. "To relieve children’s hearts, we even choose not to go back home during the Spring Festival to provide them a healthy and joyful holiday," added Jing.
As Inner Mongolia’s largest charity, the Hohhot Children’s Welfare Home offers health care, rehabilitation, psychological therapy, and occupational education for orphans and disabled children. To guarantee all-round care, the welfare home employs a crew of professional care workers, and also attracts volunteers from local colleges and communities.
