Baotou will have its first indoor sports center for winter sports in two years, Baotou Evening News reported on Aug 18.

The center is being built in preparation for the 2020 National Winter Games and the 2022 Winter Olympics. The site measures around 300 mu (20 hectares) in total, and the center will be able to hold 3,000 to 5,000 people taking part in skiing and skating. The first phase will include the construction of a skiing resort and a skating rink.

Baotou, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, has been witnessing new developments in its sports industry in terms of facilities. The opening of the indoor sports center, along with the construction of the city fitness center, is expected to spur something of a boom in the industry.
