The old drama stage of Zhouzhuang, in Jiangsu province, is a quadrangle-courtyard structure which covers an area of 4,600 square meters, with its principal part consisting of an opera stage, a section for the audience, and an exhibition hall. The vault-shape roof of the stage is made up of 420 wood scarving of phoenixes, and functions as high-quality acoustic equipment. Visitors can enjoy Kunqu opera, one of China’s intangible cultural heritages on the UNESCO World Heritage list, as well as other traditional Chinese operas from the southern regions of the Yangtze River, such as Hu opera, Yue opera, and Xi opera.
