The construction of the Huaqiao International Exhibition Center was completed on March 25.
The center will host three exhibitions soon, including the Kunshan International Venerable Brands Show on April 24, the ninth Goodbaby Warehouse Sale and the 2014 China (Kunshan) Import Expo (CIE) in mid-May. The fifth Kunshan Electronics & Electrical Equipment (KE) Show will also kick off in the center this year.
The exhibition industry is now a driving force for boosting economic growth and accelerating transformation of the service industry. Huaqiao has seen rapid development of its exhibition industry in recent years. The exhibition center has been focusing on coordinating its development with Shanghai, taking advantage of the convenient transportation and geographic location close to Shanghai.
Huaqiao has built the Huaqiao International Exhibition Center and China International Purchase Center (CIPC). Huaqiao plans to construct a group of pavilions covering a total area of more than 200,000 square meters.
In 2013, Huaqiao held 10 exhibitions in total. The fourth KE Show, a four-day exhibition specializing in electrical and electronic equipment, concluded on July 9, attracting more than 500 enterprises and 6,000 buyers from over 20 countries and regions. The number of visitors amounted to 58,000, generating a trading volume of $390 million at the site. The Goodbaby Sale was held in spring and autumn, attracting 160,000 visitors and achieving a sales volume of 55 million yuan ($8.92 million).
The second phase project of the Huaqiao International Exhibition Center will start construction to further promote the exhibition industry. Huaqiao aims to build a series of pavilions occupying an area of over 1 million sq m by 2008, making the exhibition industry a leading industry for Kunshan’s strategic development. Huaqiao will strive to serve as the most influential exhibition area in East China.
