Winter, with withered leaves and freezing wind, often transmits a desolate kind of scene. However, Jinxi town in Kunshan city, Jiangsu province, features a warm and pleasant winter with slow flowing rivers, soft love songs in the Suzhou dialect, and elegant guqin (seven-stringed zither) music.

In Chinese, Jinxi means a stream with brocade-like surface. The golden leaves, graceful music and fine rain contribute to its charming early winter scenery.

Jinxi is a typical water town in Jiangnan (the region south of the Yangtze River), an area with plenty of rain. Rain falling down on roofs, windows, plants, rivers and stone-paved paths makes a melodious sound. The whole town looks like a fairyland with the temples, bridges and pavilions obscured by mist. People can relax by having a cup of tea, reading a book, listening to the moving melody and appreciating the rain.

In addition, Jinxi's early winter is a world with colorful hues derived from red maple leaves, evergreen pines and cypresses, snow-white reed flowers and grey-tile roofs. Take a boat along the waterway to taste the tranquil water town with its clean river reflecting the blue sky, white clouds, ancient buildings and red maple trees.

Visitors may also revel in the wheat field, where the golden wheat sways with wind and shines under the sunlight. The air is filled with a light fragrance.
