Considered by many to be the most famous water town in East China, Zhouzhuang is well-known for its white-walled houses, tranquil atmosphere and still waters.
The quaint lanes lined with stone, mottled white walls and overhanging black-tiled eaves, give way to a time in Chinese history far removed from the hectic pace of modern life. The traditional dwellings dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties (AD 1368-1911) are typical of the southern Yangtze River area. [Photo/zhouzhuang.net] |
