Pingtan is an art form that mixes singing and story-telling, accompanied by musical instruments. Like Kunqu opera, it enjoys a swelling popularity in the town.
The performance requires teamwork between two performers. One plays the sanxian (a three stringed plucked instrument), while the other plays the pipa (a four stringed Chinese lute). Performances of pingtan are often shown at Qiandeng Tea House.
