Lawrence Xu, a world famous fashion designer from China, brought his yunjin brocade fashion show in Milan Pelota pavilion on July 13, as a part of Expo Milano 2015 Nanjing Week.
More than 30 models embodied the beauty of the Chinese high-end fabric, which is a representative of intangible cultural heritage from Nanjing city, capital of Jiangsu province.
The fashion show attracted around 500 audiences from Milan political, commercial and fashionable circles. Christina, representative for Milan mayor, spoke highly of the Nanjing Week activities and showed her wishes for more bilateral cooperation in the future.
Nanjing held its city promotion – Nanjing Week in Milan from July 7 to 13. Nanjing yunjin pavilion will open for two more weeks at Milan Central Railway Station. After the Nanjing Week concludes in Italy, many activities, including the yunjing fashion show, will make their appearance in Nanjing.
Nanjing yunjin brocade is a Chinese traditional silk handicraft with a 1600-year-old history. It is said to resemble colorful clouds, giving it the name of “yun” (cloud in Chinese) and “jin” (brocade). Yunjin is the finest skill in Chinese silk weaving and roughly only one inch per day can be produced, making it the most expensive fabric in the world.
