Nantong to accelerate development of marine economy

Nantong will enhance the development of an ocean-based economy during the upgrade of its industrial structure.

From May 26 to 27, Wang Hong, deputy director of the State Oceanic Administration, paid a visit to Nantong, urging the city to explore new areas in building a national demonstration area for creative ocean economic development.

Wang said that with rapid development in marine equipment, offshore wind, marine biology and medicine in recent years, Nantong has been a leader in marine economic development.

Wang also encouraged seizing the opportunity to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of industrial structure adjustment, by promoting the marine economy.

In 2013, the marine gross production of Nantong reached 140.74 billion yuan ($22.49 billion).
