Nantong’s environment quality ranks at the top

A press conference on Nantong’s ecological civilization was held by the Environment Protection Bureau of Nantong, Jiangsu province, on June 5.

To build an ecological civilization, Nantong classified work into 12 categories, defined related responsibilities, and increased the proportion of ecological civilization in the evaluation of economic work. Nine project teams in charge of ecological civilization construction are pushing ahead the work step by step.

In 2014, Nantong took on 165 emission reduction projects and took PM2.5 as its focus to prevent and control air pollution. To protect the water environment, remediation work was carried out in 32 channel segments.

From January to May, Nantong’s Air Quality Index compliance rate was 64.2 percent, ranking first among the 13 cities in Jiangsu province. It also took third place in the evaluation of ecological civilization construction projects.

Declare War Against Pollution, which is the theme of World Environment Day in China, was adopted in Nantong’s work to fight pollution with an iron hand, and more efforts will be put into air pollution controls, drinking water protection and polluted water treatment.
