The committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) of Nantong, East China’s Jiangsu province, held a meeting on tourism development on Sept 10.

The meeting, attended by Wang Dezhong, chairman of the committee and other committee officials, focused on the theme of “integrating and enriching tourism resources and promoting the development of modern tourism”.

The committee started to assign working groups to the counties and districts from September 10, which would have meetings with experts and heads of scenic spots and travel agencies, and put forward ways of developing tourism in terms of project promotion, regional cooperation and supporting services and policies.

The city received over 27 million tourists and a total tourism income of 36 billion yuan ($5.9 billion) in 2013, with a year-on-year growth of nearly 14 and 16 percent respectively.

Nantong has transformed from a source of tourists to an emerging travel destination.
